Voluntary Organisation Support Officers

Voluntary Organisation Support Officers work with community groups to help them set up, register as a charity or company, get policies, find small grant funding and more! Help can also include organisational health-checks.

We’re here to help community organisations that are run by volunteers – supporting people who are giving back to their community. From registered charities to small community groups, sports clubs to faith groups, campaigns and community clean ups – if the organisation is not-for-profit then we’re here to help. You don’t need to be part of a community group already and you don’t need to be a member of staff, we work with local residents, volunteers, trustees and staff members.

By working in partnership we can offer a complete support service to Voluntary and Community groups across Keighley, Bingley, Bradford and Ilkley. This includes but is not limited to:

  • Training

  • Information & Advice including starting a new group and accessing funding

  • Room hire for community activities and services

  • Minibus hire for community groups through our Community Transport service

  • Publicity on the DIVA Bradford directory including advertising jobs and events

In-House Governance Training

Our Voluntary Organisation Support Officers (VOSO's) here at Community Action can also provide bespoke in-house training and facilitation for management committees and boards.

The sessions are:

  • Roles and responsibilities of management committees and/or trustees

  • Good practice and/or Code of Governance for boards and management committees

We can arrange these sessions at a time and place to suit you - evenings and weekends included (with notice). An in-house session means you can discuss your organisation in detail and work on the issues that are important to you. We ask for a contribution towards time, materials and expenses on a sliding scale so that training is affordable for groups at all income levels. Prices are discounted for smaller organisations to keep this essential training affordable and accessible.

We ensure that each and every in-house session is based on your specific governing document so that it's tailored to the needs of your organisation. If you are in the process of charity registration or changing your legal structure then we will arrange the session once your governing documents are finalised.
