Helping our children in the Bradford District keep warm this winter

I would like to apply for this support. What can I do?

If you meet the criteria needed to be eligible for a No Child Cold grant, a referral needs to be made by your child’s/children’s school, a food bank or one of the voluntary sector services listed below*.

To check the criteria required for a grant please see the How the scheme works section.

To make the referral, the school, food bank or voluntary sector service will fill in a form to process your application and will ask you to confirm that you are eligible for the grant.

You will need to provide the following information to complete the application form:

Hand turning down heating on the thermostat
  • Your contact details, including name, address and phone number.

  • The details of your gas and electric supplier including their address, account number and sort code. These can be found on your utility bill or on additional paper work you may have from your supplier.

  • How you usually pay for your gas and electric – via a bank, the post office, a pre-payment or pay-as-you-go meter (meter key/card number will need to be given).

You will need to provide one of the following as proof that you meet the criteria for the No Child Cold grant:

  • Confirmation from your employer that you have been furloughed, had your hours reduced or that you have lost regular overtime.

  • Documents containing details of any benefits you claim (Universal Credit, tax credits or other income related Department for Work and Pensions / local authority benefit).

  • Details confirming your child/children receive free school meals.

Once completed, your application will be processed and if approved Citizens Advice Bureau, who are running the scheme, will arrange for the grant to added to the account(s) you hold with your gas and electricity supplier or onto your payment meter.

The maximum grant value will be £80.00.  This may be split, as you wish, between gas and electricity. This is a one-off payment. Only one application is permitted, per household, between January 2021 and 31st March 2021.

*For a referral you can find out which local voluntary sector services are involved here.
