Say "Hello" to a new friend by befriending in Bingley. Volunteers are connected to local older people who want more regular company, to reduce isolation and engage with their community.
Shipley Area Links (SAL) is a partnership led by HALE project charity in Shipley, with the Cardigan House Bingley Branch of Community Action. Our first befriending project started in 2009. The scheme achieved quality standard accreditation with National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO).
In May 2020 we launched a new Befriending partnership initiative, funded for three years by the National Lottery Community Fund Partnership Grant. Once again, we cover Bingley areas and HALE covers Shipley areas. We aim to empower local people by training volunteers and building links with older people and local community groups. Currently we offer telephone befriending in response to the coronavirus crisis.
During the COVID-19 emergency there is a Bradford District-wide community response to help people with the impact of the virus and connected lockdown. Local hubs connect community groups and services, via Bradford Council, for individuals wanting to offer or access assistance. Find out about help and support across Bradford.
Older people who are shielded, social isolating, living alone or caring for someone may experience loneliness. They may lack their usual company from friends, neighbours, family and local groups at this time. Friendly volunteers are trained, supported and linked up. These telephone befrienders make a regular call for a chat.
